Discrimination in MBBS reservation quota

The Ministry of Education and Sports (MoES) has published the final merit list of the students applying for studying MBBS and BDS on scholarship provided by MoES. The result is published four days before, which includes the reservation lists of Janajati, women and Dalit. As far as the reservation list of Dalit is concerned MoES has discriminated Dalits which seems intentional. There are five Dalit students in the merit list who have successfully met all the criteria of the ministerial selection board. But all of their names are under BDS program. None of the Dalit student is in MBBS program. According to the previous years trend and rule of reservation there should be at least three Dalit students for MBBS program. The names of the successful students are:-Bishwanath Ranapal (Pariyar), Nisha Nepal (Pariyar), Aliz Nepali (Sarki), Sunil Sunar and Sujit Khanal (B.K.).

Stating that the decision (result) is an intentional discrimination Nepal Swatantra Dalit Students Organization (NIDSO), victim students and their parents, Students from PDRC hostel, representatives from JMC and CoCAP demonstrated at the main gate of the MoES on Sunday to pressurize the ministry to discard the result and publish again with necessary correction according to the reservation system. After a whole day’s demonstration by the students Lav Prasad Tripati , the spokesperson of the ministry met with the representatives at four pm in his office and assured to hold a meeting of the technical board next day.

NIDSO has decided to continue regression and demonstration until the MoES fulfills the demand of the Dalit students.
