Kathmandu, May 3- The eligible political parties have submitted their lists to the Election Commission for Constituent Assembly members under Proportional Representation (PR) system. A total 43 Dalits have been nominated for CA under the PR system, making a total of 50 dalits CA members including 7 members elected directly under First-Past-the-Post (FPTP) system earlier. This total is little less than 10% of the total members, which is only half of the 20% seats that Dalits have been demanding to represent them in the CA based on the estimated proportion of 20% for their population. The official figures indicate that the population of Dalits is 13% of the country’s population. Still, the Government of Nepal has choice to off set this anomaly by way of nominating proportionately more Dalit members of CA, out of 26 members, whom the Executive Government will be inducting into CA from various walks of life including civil societies.
