Dalit agenda: A hope of power sharing at the state level through formation of a separate party
The following is an article by Hira Bishwakarma, which was published in SAMAYA of this week. In this article Bishwakarma argues that a hope of power sharing at the state level can come only if Dalits can form their separate party and proportionate system of election continues. The Dalits of Nepal can be a good political power with the capacity of political bargaining with the major political parties if they do so.
The author has stated that Maoists have 20 CA members from Dalits and from Dalit Janajati Party there is only one member Mr. Bishwendra Paswan, in terms of getting opportunity in the CA he gets the priority. He would be counted as one among 25 political parties, where as Tilak Pariyar, the largest party’s Dalit leader becomes just one of the CA members among 601. “What I strongly feel is”, Bishwakarma comments, “If Dalits of Nepal can come up as separate political force, which is not impossible, it will benefit the Dalit leaders in their respective parties.”
