Kathmandu, June 13 - A television serial that raised the issue of caste discrimination in Nepali society is finally coming to an end with its 52nd episode being aired on Sunday. ‘Dalan’ — a production of Jagran Media Centre — has a huge fan base in Nepal and abroad, show producers say, with nearly 400 fan clubs across the world.

The series has been nominated for a special award by the One World Media Trust from the U.K., whose results will be announced on June 22.

The series depicts discrimination and inequalities that prevail in Nepali society. Its realistic art form and the new artists it employed have worked for the show’s success amongst many conservative and non-Dalit groups as well, Nabin Subba, director, said. He further said, “The show is a different movement than street protests.”

Aahuti, the scriptwriter who is a Dalit himself, said the series is a protest against all social evils against Dalits and depicts their problems since the 2007 B.S democratic move The producers will soon release the series on DVD format.

दलन अन्तर्राष्ट्रिय अवार्डमा

टेलिशृंखला ‘दलन’ बेलायतस्थित वन वल्र्ड मिडिया ट्रष्टको स्पेसल अवार्डको सर्ट लिस्टमा परेको छ । ट्रस्टले मिडिया सम्बन्धी विश्वभरका १२ क्षेत्रमा अवार्ड प्रदान गर्दै आएको छ ।

‘दलन’ उक्त अवार्डमा नोमिनेसनमा परेको मुलुककै पहिलो टेलिशृंखला भएको निर्माता जागरण मिडिया सेन्टरका पूर्ण बराइलीले दाबी गरे । ‘विभिन्न जाति र समुदायमा भाइचाराको भावना विकास गराउने यो शृंखलाको,’ निर्देशक नवीन सुब्बाले शनिबार भने, ‘असारभर प्रतिनिधि भागहरू पुनः प्रसारण गर्नेछौं ।’ दलित विषयवस्तुमा आधारित ‘दलन’ का ४ सय फिल्म क्लब बनिसकेको पनि उनले बताए ।

प्रशारण क्रममा मुलुकका विभिन्न भागबाट ‘जसले जातीय विभेद गर्छ, उसलाई उपहार दिनु’ भनी व्यंग्यात्मक रूपमा एक रुपैयाँ समेत संकलन गरिएको थियो । निर्माताका अनुसार दलन चलचित्र कोषमा बीस हजार जम्मा भइसकेको छ ।

उक्त अवार्ड विजेताको घोषणा जुन २२ मा हुँदै छ ।
